An upcoming event to celebrate Father’s Day was discussed at the weekly Wednesday meeting of the Highland County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Brad Roades said the event was discussed at the Highland County Family and Children First Council (FCFC) board meeting on Tuesday. He said that because June is Fatherhood Month, they wanted to put together an event to celebrate.

The event, called Fish-Tastic Fathers!, will take place Friday, June 21 at 9800 N. Shore Dr. at the East Shore Marina from 1-3 p.m. Roades said he would be reading a proclamation at the event and Jeremy Ratcliff will be the emcee.

A flyer provided to The Times-Gazette asked if, “You know someone who lives in Highland County who is a responsible father and should be recognized for being an excellent role model for his family?” The flyer said that if you do, nominations for recognition are available until June 14. The nominees and their families are invited to attend. It said to email [email protected].

“I forget how many thousands of dollars they have in gifts to give away and it’s just to honor fathers,” Roades said. “It sounds like it’s gonna be a good time… Just sounds like a good time for kids their dads.”

In other news, commissioner Dave Daniels said Resolution 24-101 was related to the improvements coming to the sewer plant. He said it will allow them to apply for funding that would encompass both phase one and phase two of the project. He said phase two hasn’t been bid out yet.
