Toy Farm Show back at Fairgrounds

The newest rendition of the Southwestern Ohio Farm Toy Collector Club’s Toy Farm Show will be coming on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds. The club’s Facebook page said that tickets into the event are $3.

Melanie Hawk, secretary for the organization, said this will be a continuation of previous years of the event, with it having been done since 1987, the first year of the event. She said it is a farm toy show where people can come and see displays or also get involved and sell farm toys as vendors.

“It’s just really a way for us toy collectors to get together and show off what we have acquired and share the love of collecting, you know, with others,” she said.

Hawk said some of those include tractors like Fords, Minneapolis-Molines and John Deere, among many others. She said “a lot of us” started collecting miniature versions of the real tractors that they grew up operating as kids, wanting to find a way to “commemorate” those childhood memories. She said that’s how some people started to collect, and following that, they start going to toy shows and find “odd and neat one-of-a-kind things” and pick them up.

Hawk said that, to become a vendor, they would need to get on their vendor’s list or turn in a vendor’s application. She said those applications have already gone out and are due back by the end of July so that the club can make sure they have enough space or that they might need to be put on a waiting list.

She said that next year’s summer show will be moved to White Oak High School to line up with the Mowrystown FFA’s winter show held at the same location.

Hawk said there will be food vendors in attendance for those coming to the event. She also said that the event will be running at the same time as the Lynchburg-Clay FFA’s Tractor Pull event, saying that she hoped the two event’s crowds would co-mingle.

“We are excited,” she said. “It’s always a good time to bring other collectors in together and you know, discuss some of the unique toys out there or what’s, you know, the current prices for some of the items. So, it’s always a good time, and plus to see how the displays are.”

For those interested in getting involved in the club, Hawk said it has meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Danville Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. However, she also said that will be different next month because of Vacation Bible School, with it being moved to the second Tuesday of the month.
