McClain hosts cross country opener

The 2024 cross country season began on Saturday, Aug. 24 with a run at Mitchell Park in Greenfield, hosted by the McClain Tigers.

The high school events were won by the Miami Trace girls and the Hillsboro boys.

Fairfield won the middle school boys’ race and Zane Trace won the middle school girls’ 3200-meter run.

Hillsboro’s Taylor Thoroman won the 5k run in a time of 22:11.

Alli Knect led Miami Trace by placing third in 22:37.

Miami Trace had three more runners place in the top 10 from a field of 40 participants.

Karleigh Cooper was fifth in 23:04, Tori Peterson placed sixth in 23:27 and Kamika Bennett was seventh in 24:02.

Also for Miami Trace, Lily Siler was 11th in 25:06, Nora Morrison was 19th in 28:02, followed by Paige Fitzgerald, 21st in 28:27. Karlee Johnson was 22nd in 28:45 and Jayda Jones finished 23rd in 28:52.

Belle DeBruin was 25th with a time of 29:52. Cailin Johnson was 28th in 30:10, Emily Parsley was 29th in 30:27 and Kami Kulin was 36th in 36:54.

For Washington, Addison Weaver was the top finisher, placing 26th in 29:59.

Amelia Koutz was 27th in 30:03, Kaylee Boehm was 35th in 35:18, June Maddux was 38th in 39:38 and Lauren Thompson was 39th in 39:46.

Miami Trace had a total of 32 placement points.

Hillsboro was second with 37 points, followed by McClain with 78 points, Fairfield with 96 and Washington with 129.

Also for Hillsboro, Kennedy Sexton was fourth in a time of 22:44.

Abbey Letts placed ninth in 24:29, Olivia Covault was 10th in 24:30, Brynne Holsted placed 15th in 26:17, Alizeh Hudson was 16th in 27:19; Claire Winkle was 20th in 28:15.

For McClain, the top placer was Brooke Baldwin, finishing eighth with a time of 24:19.

Liv Stegbauer was 13th in 26:07, Laura Barber placed 17th in 27:41; Ashley Mitchell was 24th in 29:33; Bailey Mitchell as 31st in 20:36 and Vada Ponder was 33rd in 33:08.

For Fairfield, Aylah Humphreys took second in 22:33.

Madelyn Wiseman was 18th in 27:48, Emelia Roehm finished 32nd in 32:48; Eleanore Warner was 34th in 33:53 and Taylor Livingston was 37th in 39:34.

The Hillsboro boys high school team placed four runners in the top seven out of 58 total runners.

Corbin Winkle won the race in 17:00.

Rason Brunck was second in 18:06, Chris Sowders was sixth in 18:32 and Ryan Howland was seventh in 19:10.

Also for Hillsboro, Cooper Swope placed 15th in 20:39, Trenton Gulley was 28th with a time of 21:51 and Jayden Wells was 32nd in 22:05.

Hillsboro’s high school boys’ team had 31 placement points.

Zane Trace was second with 70 points, Washington was third with 81 points, followed closely by East Clinton with 82 points, then Fairfield with 92 points, Miami Trace with 136 points and McClain with 183 points.

For Washington, Avery Wightman placed third in 18:12.

Wyatt Putney was 10th in 19:27, Caleb Atkinson was 19th in 21:07, David Bennett was 22nd in 21:25, T.J. Ooten was 27th in 21:50, Ethan Miteff was 29th in 21:51, Matthew Jones placed 34th in 22:42, Nathan Reed was 35th in 23:06; Colton Osborne was 37th in 23:08.10 and Randon Stolzenburg was 43rd in 25:47.

For Miami Trace, Justin Everhart was the first to cross the finish line, taking 14th in 20:38.

Will Enochs was 24th in 21:41, Garrett Carson placed 30th in 21:58, Gabe Carson was 31st in 22:03, Seth Thompson placed 39th in 23:56, Meyer Bloom was 42nd in a time of 25:15, Ethan Smith was 50th in 28:11 and Kaden Batson was 51st in 28:46.

For the host Tigers, Dart Stovall was the top finisher, placing 17th in 20:58.

Also for McClain, Nicolas Alvarez was 38th in 23:23; Zander Lyons was 47th in 26:36; Jesse Van Hoose was 52nd in 28:55; Avery Truman was 55th in 30:12 and Nathan Alvarez was 56th in 30:51.

For Fairfield, Ryan Smith placed eighth in 19:19.

Also for the Lions, Caleb Rice was 18th in 20:58.10, Connor Ayers was 20th in 21:20, Zach Absaruk was 21st in 21:20, Griffin Friend placed 25th in 21:43, Zachary Morris was 48th in 27:26, Landyn Hoskins was 57th in 32:11 and Gregary Achtermann was 58th in 32:41.

In the boys’ 3200-meter run, Fairfield had the top three finishers and four in the top 10 to win by 33 points.

Fairfield had 22 placement points, while Hillsboro was second with 55 points, Greenfield was third with 64 and Washington was fourth with 83.

Blake Walters of Fairfield won the event in 11:39. Vinny Ballard was second in 11:56 and Archer Cline was third in 12:00.

Bentley Sowards was ninth in 12:59, Owen VanDyke was 13th in 13:18; Krobin Hixon was 20th in 14:12, Weston Baldwin was 24th in 14:50, Desmond Clark was 32nd in 17:31 and Bentley West was 35th in 19:53.

Miami Trace’s top placer was Wesley Creamer, sixth in 12:32. Griffin Strider was 22nd in 14:29, Joseph Kind was 26th in 16:12, and Ronald Mader was 34th in 18:46.

For Washington, Haruto Akai was the top finisher, taking 15th in 13:21. Carson Wise was 21st in 14:13, Braedan Curl was 25th with a time of 15:50, Calvin Brand was 27th in 16:25, Jonah Weaver was 28th in 16:36 and Joseph Somers was 31st in 17:25.

For Greenfield, Isaac Mincey was seventh in 12:52. Renick Gray was 14th in 13:19, Owen Sykes was 17th in 13:53; Aidan Lester placed 23rd in 14:31, Landan Cullom was 29th in 16:53, Jack Judkins was 30th in 17:03 and Mason Drummond was 36th in 21:23.

For Hillsboro, Tyler Bender was eight in 12:30, Luke Letts placed eighth in 12:57, Mason Rinal was 11th in 13:07, Rush Abernathy finished 18th in 13:59 and Austin Inman was 33rd in 17:50.

In the girls’ 3200-meter run, Zane Trace and Hillsboro each had 32 placement points.

The tiebreaker was the sixth-place runner, which went to Zane Trace, with a 12th-place team result to 13th place for Hillsboro.

Greenfield was third with 70 points.

Overall finishers, Sophie Williams of Zane Trace won with a time of 12:03.

Lila Banks of Greenfield placed second in a time of 12:44 and Fairfield’s Daphne Zink was third in 13:47.

Quinn Swope of Hillsboro was fifth in 13:51.

Maddie McClaskey of Miami Trace placed 17th in 16:50.

Washington’s Shaelyn Larch was 30th in 21:55.

Also for Miami Trace, Addie Carper was 21st in 18:08, Korrie Bennett was 23rd in 19:23 and Lydia Card was 24th in 20:07.

Also for Washington, Brennah Dawes was 37th in 23:52.

Also for Greenfield, Alaina Best placed 20th in 17:35, Addisyn Russell was 26th in 21:12, Elise Morgan was 28th in 21:51, Riley Lanning was 29th in 21:52, Braylee Brown was 31st in 22:10, Marley Hale was 35th in 23:09 and Ren Bateman was 38th in 31:20.

For Hillsboro, Parker Wilkins was sixth in 14:18, Claire Pierson was seventh in 14:25, Emarey Schurman was 11th in 15:43, Aria Ruble placed 14th in 16:22, Abriann Anderson was 19th in 17:25, Scarlett McElwee placed 22nd in 18:11 and K’Nasia Leeper was 36th in 23:46.

For Fairfield, Laural McCoy was fourth in 13:43 and Oakley Purvis was 15th in 16:23.
