The organization 4 Them We Fight will hold A Rally of Hope at Restoration Acres at 5845 State Route 124 in Hillsboro on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. to speak about drugs and alcohol, and human trafficking.

The event will feature Beverly Aikins, the mother of Ohio U.S. Senator and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance. Aikins was featured in “Hillbilly Elegy,” a 2016 memoir by Vance about the Appalachian values of his family from Kentucky and the socioeconomic problems of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio. The book and 2020 movie detailed her struggles with addiction.

“We just want to bring awareness to drugs and alcohol along with human trafficking,” said Tonya Aber of 4 Them We Fight. “It’s geared towards the teens, and we’re going to have teen speakers.”

Aber’s granddaughter Emma Horn, who lost her mother to addiction when she was 11, will be a featured speaker.

“It’s really just opening doors that people should have opened up a long time ago,” said Aber. “We’re going to bring it to light, and hopefully we can get some teenagers to open up because I know there’s a lot that are stuck in homes with addiction, and we need to break the stigma.”

The event will include food trucks, live music by Tony Renner and Kris Toney, and an open mic.
