McClain’s Sterling advances to Districts

On Monday, Sept. 23, the DI Southeast Sectional for girls golf took place at Jaycee Public Golf Course.

All six Frontier Athletic Conference teams participated (Chillicothe, Hillsboro, Jackson, McClain, Miami Trace and Washington) along with Unioto, Marietta, Circleville, Logan, Fairfield Union, Sheridan, Warren and Athens.

The top five teams and the top five individuals not on a qualifying team would advance to the District tournament.

The top five teams in order were: Unioto with a 380, Marietta with a 393, Jackson with a 405, Circleville with a 406 and Logan with a 426.

The top five individuals not on a qualifying team in order were: Ellie Beck-Aden of Athens with a 79, Faith Wynne of Washington with a 79, Marina Johnson of Warren with a 93, Kaylin Sterling of McClain with a 96 and Kelsey Hawkins of Fairfield Union with a 96.

The tournament medalist and individual Sectional Champion was Aubrey Arnold of Jackson who shot a 77.

Miami Trace finished sixth as a team with a 438, one spot out of qualifying as a team for the District tournament.

Individually for Jackson, Arnold led and was the medalist with a 77, followed by Alayna Hitchcock with a 105, Ava Jenkins with a 108, Alia Rippeth with a 115 and Alanta Gibson with a 148.

Individually for Miami Trace, Emily Reeves led with a 102, followed by Rylee Ferguson with a 106, Ashlynd Hippely with a 109, Kelsy Douglas with a 121 and Emily Keaton with a 125.

Individually for Washington, Wynne led with a 79, followed by Arabella Cadena with a 117, Gwendolyn Duncan with a 120, Addison Yahn with a 129 and Addylyn Mason with a 176.

Individually for Hillsboro, Emma Yochum led with a 109, followed by Blake Herdman with a 114, Rylea Scarberry with a 116, Amani Cumberland with a 121 and Halle Jones with a 126.

Individually for McClain, Sterling led with a 96, followed by Abbie Lovett with a 116. Reese Roble with a 119, Hailey Cornett with a 129 and Kallie Posey with a 132.

Individually for Chillicothe, Cadie Boltenhouse led with a 107, followed by Mallorie McCloy with a 113, Qiuchengxi Su with a 120, Nia Brown with a 121 and Ista McNeal with a 122.

The DI District Tournament will take place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Eaglesticks Golf Course in Zanesville.
