In an inspiring testament to the value of higher education, Shawn Gall, of Hillsboro, decided to return to school to pursue a degree in business, having a passion for learning and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

After the non-profit organization Shawn had worked at for 20 years closed due to lack of funding, she was blessed with the opportunity to return to school and finally earn her degree. “I decided on Southern State because I could schedule my classes around my job search and family obligations,” Shawn said.

Shawn enrolled in the business pathway at Southern State, taking mostly online courses with a focus on accounting. “What I loved most about Southern State was how accessible the instructors were,” Shawn said. “I felt very comfortable that if I needed to reach out to them, they would respond, usually very quickly.”

She recalls every encounter, even with the staff, to be pleasant and helpful. “The entire College genuinely cares and wants to see all students succeed,” Shawn said. “I highly recommend Southern State to those who want to better themselves no matter their age.”

Fast forward to now, Shawn is a proud graduate and could not be happier with the decision she made to attend Southern State. With her Associate of Applied Business Degree in accounting, Shawn is working in a career she loves.

Southern State hopes to inspire others in the community to pursue their educational goals, regardless of their current life stage. “It’s never too late to chase your dreams,” Shawn

emphasized. “I encourage anyone considering furthering their education to take that leap of faith.”

Southern State’s Associate of Applied Business Degree pathways can be completed entirely online. With flexible scheduling and a comprehensive curriculum, aspiring business professionals can now take the next step in their careers without compromising their current commitments.

The program covers key areas such as finance, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship, all delivered by experienced faculty committed to student success.

“Our online programming is designed to meet the needs of today’s learners,” said Southern State Associate Professor of Business Jeff Tumbleson. “We understand the challenges many students face, and we are dedicated to providing a flexible, high-quality education that fits their busy lifestyles,” he added.

Registration for the upcoming semester opens on October 29. Prospective students can visit https://www.sscc.edu/academics/programs/business.shtml for more information on program details, admission requirements, and application deadlines.
