Greenfield man re-sentenced on multiple rape charges

Pettiford

A Greenfield man re-sentenced to 20 years in prison on two counts of rape was among two people sentenced in Highland County Common Please Court.

Gary Pettiford, 72, applied for a re-sentencing for a judgment entry from Aug. 21, 2023, for which Pettiford was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison on one count of rape, a first-degree felony, which was ordered to be consecutive another 10 years to life in prison for another count of rape, also a first-degree felony. That sentencing was found to be the same in the re-sentencing.

Pettiford was ordered to file as a Tier III Registered Sex Offender.

According to court documents for both counts, on or around May 24, 2023, Pettiford engaged in sexual conduct with the victim, who was not their spouse and living separate and apart from him, with the victim also being less than 13 years old, whether or not Pettiford knew the age of the victim.

In other sentencings, John Williamson Jr., 60, Hillsboro, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on one count of failure to register a change of address as a registered sex offender, a third-degree felony. Williamson Jr. was given 72 days of jail time credit.

If Williamson Jr. was sentenced to a term of imprisonment, which he was in this case, a period of supervision under conditions determined by the Adult Parole Authority after his release from prison was found to be optional in this case.

If he was sentenced to prison for a felony of the third-degree that was not a felony of violence or a felony sex offense, or for a felony of the fourth or fifth-fifth degree, after his release, he would be subject to up to two years of post-release control supervision at the option of the Adult Parole Authority.

According to court documents, beginning on or around April 1, 2024, and continuing thereafter, Williamson Jr. did, being a registered sex offender, convicted from Adams County Common Pleas Court case no. 20090030 and according to his requirements of the law after 2008, having a duty to register a change of address, failed to provide notice of any change of address within 20 days by written notice, and was reckless in that regard, having previously been convicted of abduction, a third-degree felony, on Oct. 1, 2009, Williamson Jr. being a Tier I Registered Sex Offender and having the duty to register annually and 20 days before an address change and within three days of an address change.
