Hello! In the kitchen with Sharon this week is my good friend Patricia Nichols. Way to go Patricia on this recipe. This is not only a great recipe but you don’t have to bake it and its in one pan with easy cleanup. And, this will be great to do with the younger children. I love this recipe — a great one for summer cake — and did I say it saves on electricity. LOL. This is a must try recipe.

Cummings completes training

Jerry Haag Motors, Inc. has announced the graduation of Justin Cummings, technician, from Sinclair Community College. Cummings is a 2023 graduate of the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program, a work/study program spanning two years. Jerry Haag Motors covered his tuition and maintained his salary throughout those two years. “We are extremely proud of Justin’s dedication to his craft while working hard at his studies and his job. We look forward to having Justin in the Jerry Haag Motors family for many years to come,” Steve Haag, owner.

Coomer donates to senior center

Highland County Senior Citizens Center members are pictured with Robyn Coomer, Realtor at Classic Real Estate Company, who donated a gold sponsorship of $500 for the senior center’s annual Elvis Presley fundraising event, which made a profit of a little over $10,000. This annual event helps fund the operation of the senior center as it is a self-funded organization and does not receive any government funds on a state, local or federal level. Coomer is an annual supporter and volunteer of the senior center.

The Highland County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 2023 to be Brain Cancer Awareness Month and May 17, 2023, to be Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day in honor of 10-year-old Aralyn Slack of Lynchburg-Clay. Pictured are (l-r) Dave Daniels, Nicole Oberrecht, Brad Roades, Ashleigh Willey, Mary Remsing and Terry Britton. Multiple events to benefit Slack were also detailed, which included Aralyn’s Lemonade Stand on Saturday, May 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Lynchburg-Clay Middle School, Aralyn’s Turtley Awesome Event on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 6-11 p.m. at the Lake View Loft Event Venue at 10215 Jones Rd. in Hillsboro and the Aralyn Slack Car, Truck and Bike Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lynchburg Park. Her Facebook page, Aralyn’s Alliance, was also discussed, with a link on the page going to the GoFundMe campaign.

All About Beef sends cards to veterans

The All About Beef 4-H Club held its monthly meeting May 7. President Blake Herdman called the meeting to order, followed by the treasurer report given by Joslyn Rockey and secretary report given by Sydney Shelton. Project books were handed out to all members. Emma and Conner Yochum did a demonstration. All members created handmade cards for local veterans as part of their community service project. Each member was responsible for bringing in the necessary art supplies to make the cards, which were delivered to The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown. The club’s next meeting will be held on June 4.

The Southern State Community College Theatre Company will hold auditions for the summer production of “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney.
