The Fairfield Lady Lions stacked up another win in what is now a nine-win streak Monday night against the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats with a final score of 59-30.
Fairfield took the lead in the first quarter and kept it for the remainder of the game, outscoring Whiteoak in all four quarters.
The first period ended with 19-12 on the scoreboard in favor of the Lady Lions. Grace Shope and Carly Arnold were the top scorers of the first quarter, with Shope throwing in two 2-pointers and a three, and Arnold putting up two long 3-pointers. Chelsea Chisman put up two 2-pointers and two free throws for 4 points in the first quarter, and Megan Botts and Morgan Thompson each tossed a three.
Fairfield outscored Whiteoak by 10 points in the second quarter, with Shope throwing in two 2-pointers and two threes for a halftime score of 37-20. Maggie Carr led scoring for Whiteoak in the second quarter, putting up two 2-point shots.
The Lady Lions limited Whiteoak to 5 points in each of the remaining quarters. The third period saw Fairfield again outscore Whiteoak by 10 points, with Blake Adams and Brianna Barnes each tossing in two 2-pointers to lead the Lions.
Both teams scored low in the fourth quarter, with Fairfield making 7 points while keeping Whiteoak at 5 for the period. The Lady Lions took the win at 59-30 on the evening, advancing to 12-7 overall and 8-3 in the league.
Shope led scoring for the Lions with 22 points, and Chisman put up 8 points to lead the Wildcats.
“We came out in the first half, we shot the ball really well, and luckily our press gave them some problems in the first quarter,” said Fairfield girls coach Chad Hamilton.
The Lady Lions will travel to Lynchburg-Clay Thursday to take on the Lady Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.
